“[Julliard] I love it because it doesn’t let me be comfortable, relax, not work, I’m always inspired and working hard to excel at what I like the most, which is being a musician” says the Mexican pianist Daniela Liebmannin an interview with VANGUARDIA, who has been studying at the prestigious New York school for two years.
Originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco, the 20-year-old artist will perform this Thursday in Saltillo together with the Desert Philharmonic Orchestra (OFDC) in the Fernando Soler City Theatersharp at 8:30 p.m., where he will interpret the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by Maurice Ravel –full of color and some “jazz notes”, expressed the pianist about the work–.
The concert is the inaugural activity of the season 2023 “Air” of the OFDC, which they announced this Tuesday at a press conference, where they highlighted the presence of the Guadalajara, who has stood out on the music scene in Mexico since he was 9 years old, when he debuted with the Aguascalientes Symphony Orchestra.
“Every day I get up and there are about five concerts in the city, and then another five concerts at the conservatory,” added the interpreter regarding her experience in New York, “there is so much to hear, so much to learn, and I think what I like the most is that there is an energy of constantly wanting to do something more important and beyond what is accepted as correct. It’s an idea of being innovative in classical music, which is something that tends to be very traditional.

Liebman comes from a family of musicians, his father is a violinist and his grandma pianist. She received her first keyboard from her at age 5 and by age 7 she was already participating in her first competition, In Monterrey. A year later she won first place in the competition. “I also entered my first competition in the United States at 9 and it started climbing all over the place. […] At 11 I had the opportunity to play in carnegie hall, the concert no. 2 of Shostakovich and right after that I played at Bellas Artes for the first time and then I gave a recital at the Cervantino Festival”, he added.
At that age his family moved to the United States to continue his studies in Texas, where he spent 7 years until Julliard opened the doors for him and now he lives in NY. His stay in the northern neighbor also allowed him to meet his manager at the age of 12, an agency with which it has been possible for his career to leave the borders of mexicowhere, he emphasizes, he has always had support
“I think what I’m trying to find right now… the most difficult thing, and what has brought me the most happiness, is to find what music contributes to my life, personally. It sounds very general, but I think that each person has something very different […] It has happened to me that I have lost my reason for playing music and what I want to express every time I want to play the piano and the message that I care about that comes out of the music. Right now I am focusing on rediscovering that, that my interpretations are not just playing the best note, the fastest and the loudest. I think the most important thing is to have a connection and something to say, it is what stays with me when I listen to someone who inspires me, ”she expressed about his aspirations at this time.

During the press conference they also announced that they will resume concerts with ensembles, which will now be held in museums, starting on February 14, at the Museum of the Revolution.
The seasonal concert of that month, on the 10th, will present the orchestra with the Italian director Giulio Arnolfiwhere, with the soloist Gustavo TinderOFDC First Clarinet.
They are also preparing for a concert with a cause, to benefit the foundation San Lorenzo AC. with a symphonic tribute to Billy Joel in which they will once again share the stage withn Popo Arizpe and The Fat Fingers, on Thursday, March 9, after having previously collaborated in the tribute to the Beatles Last December.
Likewise, they will also be part of the activities for the 80th anniversary of the Faculty of Jurisprudence, with a concert on March 23 in which they will perform the Fire Concert by Alexis Aranda, mexican composer and member of the Emeritus Creators program of the Palacio de Bellas Artes, as well as Rossini’s Cenerentola Overture and the Beethoven’s 5th Symphonywith the director Inés Rodríguez as a guest.
And as if that were not enough, they will once again collaborate with maestro Eugene Kohn, who will give a seminar to the OFDC members, before they go on a national tenor tour. Andrea Bocelli through Mexico, with dates in Monterrey, Mexico City, Guadalajara and Torreón.
