The boyfriend of the young woman who was trapped by an avalanche and suffered a leg amputation gave a crude story about what happened last Thursday in Bariloche. The neighboring couple from La Plata was surprised by a storm in the middle of the mountain and the man gave shocking details of the accident: “She was buried”he assured.
It all happened when the young people were walking along a trekking path in the direction of the San Martín refuge, located at 1,600 meters above sea level. Despite the alerts issued by various conservation and rescue agencies, They undertook the journey to the Jakob refuge and were caught in the middle of a thunderstorm that caused rivers and streams to overflow.
“It’s a miracle she’s not dead. For a moment she was buried by stones, logs and mud. At that moment, I heard a scream, she had stayed with her head above the surface, something almost impossible due to the size of the trunks. When I managed to lift her up, I saw that a giant stone was crushing her leg and had it split in two.” continued the story of the young man.
Faced with this situation, he cleaned his girlfriend’s face, which was full of mud, and made a tourniquet on her leg. Fortunately, They were walking with another tourist who was able to run away looking for help and soon after the assistance of doctors and rescuers appeared: “I stayed with her until they rescued us. It was about an hour that we were there. I would like to highlight the enormous help that the person who accompanied us gave us. He observed everything, asked for help and if it weren’t for him we would be dead,” Iván said.
