A plane is forced to return to Sydney airport due to threats from a passenger

Australia.- A Malaysia Airlines plane was forced to return to Sydney Airport shortly after taking off on Monday due to alleged threats from a passenger, who was detained by the Police.

In a statement, the Australian Police explained that the 45-year-old responsible for the incident was arrested and the passengers were evacuated from flight MH122, which was scheduled to fly to Kuala Lumpur.

“There is no threat to the community,” said the Police, who are investigating what happened and who have announced that they will file charges against the man, without giving further details.

The flight left Sydney at 1:06 p.m. (0306 GMT) and, after the passenger’s threatening behavior, returned to the Australian airport at 3:47 p.m. (0547 GMT).

The airport authorities indicated on the X platform (formerly Twitter) that 32 domestic flights were canceled due to the incident, while others suffered delays of up to 90 minutes.

One of the passengers on board explained to X that the plane had to turn back because the man started threatening the crew.

“I am the slave of Allah, are you? Tell me,” the suspect said, according to a video posted on social media.

Back at the airport, the passengers were transferred to the back of the plane, while the flight attendants spoke to the man to try to calm him down.

The Police managed to arrest him and the remaining passengers were able to disembark without further setbacks.
