Israel-Palestine and Russia-Ukraine war, live: the G7 seeks to help Ukraine with frozen Russian assets

A small one detachment of Russian ships belonging to the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy entered the port of the Venezuelan city of La Guaira, in the north of the country, on Tuesday for a stopover as part of its operations in the Atlantic Ocean.

A detachment of ships from the Northern Fleet (…) carried out a commercial stopover at the port of La Guaira in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The business call will last several days, after which the sailors will continue with their assigned tasks, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement reported by TASS.

According to the Russian military authorities, the flotilla is made up of the frigate Gorshkov and the tanker Pashin, two of the vessels that docked in the Cuban port of Havana, so it is assumed that it is the same detachment that is still in Caribbean waters.

The Russian flotilla’s stopover in Havana generated some tension at the regional level, especially in the United Statesalthough it is true that both Russia and Cuba already insisted that the visit of These vessels did not pose any kind of threat. Washington, for its part, assured that it would monitor the movement of the ships at all times.

Venezuela is one of the few countries that maintains good relations with Russia. In February of this year, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrovin which they discussed the strategic cooperation that exists between both countries.

On his X account (formerly Twitter), Maduro assured that the meeting with Lavrov was fruitful and excellent and that the objective of the meeting was to reinforce the entire strategic map of comprehensive cooperation between Russia and Venezuela.
