A Russian military group recruits gamers with experience in flight simulators to operate drones

The Wagner Group, a private security company run by Russian oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin, is hiring drone experts for military operations in Ukraine and Africa. According to a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), they recruit gamers with experience in flight simulators.

According to an audio interception released by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine (GUR), a new recruitment of mercenaries from the Wagner Group has been initiated due to the heavy losses suffered on the battlefield. In the opposition website Verstka, Wanted are those with the ability to stand upright for hours while playing.

Russians Hire Gamers for War

Future drone technicians and operators for the Wagner Group no military experience needed, just good physical condition. A Russian outlet posed as a candidate and asked about the requirements. The insider asked if knowledge of drones, helicopters and other more advanced ones is needed. The recruiter stated: “We have helicopters and drones,” and stated, that does not make lack of experience or military service, none of that is an obstacle to enter, assured the recruiter.

Wagner offers his recruits training with expert instructors, medical and life coverage, modern equipment and a good salary. Although the Wagner Group has been involved in conflicts in Syria, Ukraine and elsewhere, its relationship with Russian military forces has been controversial, raising concerns in the Kremlin.
