San Luis Potosi, Mexico.- A 25-meter-diameter sinkhole dried up a watering hole located in the municipality of Santa Catarina, southeast of San Luis Potosí.

The opening of the hole up to 40 meters deep worried both the residents of the indigenous community of Anteojos and the owner of the land, who expressed her sadness at the problems this will cause her.

Valeriana González, owner of the property, explained the importance of the trough, which was used by her cattle to hydrate.

Given the initial neglect of the authorities, the place was fenced off with logs and wire by the residents themselves.

It was two young men who herded their cattle who warned of the sinkhole and recounted how, after hearing a roar, the hole opened and the trough dried up.

The hole has been open for at least a week and the residents requested the intervention of the state Civil Protection to assess the risks due to fear that the hole could spread and continue causing more damage in the area.

“It is very important that they do take action on the matter because it is seen to be softening, even in the shot we took you can see cracked parts and below they look very flaccid,” Javier Maldonado, a resident of Santa Catarina, told local media.

In a video recorded by residents with the help of a drone, you can see the impact of opening the hole and the way in which the water from the trough dried up.

In the community of Juan C. Bonilla, in Puebla, residents have been affected by a sinkhole for almost two years, which has gone from measuring 5 meters in diameter to 126 meters in diameter
