A sixty-year-old prisoner for the murder of his brother in Yabucoa

The Department of Justice filed a criminal charge for first degree murder against Juan Antonio Fernández Bermúdez, 62, a resident of Yabucoa for events that occurred on November 4, 2022 in the Guano sector of the Camino Nuevo neighborhood, in Yabucoa.

It emerges from the investigation that the defendant allegedly assaulted and restricted his brother’s freedom Fidel Fernandez Bermudez, 60 years old.

The injured party was confined in a hospital, where he died in March 2023.

The evidence was presented before Judge Carlos Capó, who found cause for his arrest and set him a $75,000 bail, which he did not provide, for which he was admitted to the Correctional Complex.

The preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 18, 2023.

Agent Aracelis Aponte, supervised by Sergeant Esteban Ortiz, attached to the Homicide division of the Humacao Criminal Investigation Corps, was in charge of investigating the case.

It should be noted that Fernández Bermúdez was released from prison, since he was under investigation for the crimes of Attempted Murder and restriction of liberty, related to these events, where Judge Enid Rivera had set a $100,000 bail for him.
