One of the most beloved gaming franchises ever is about to return to live action, but this time on the small screen. The Hollywood Reporter announced that Amazon has given the green light for the build of a Tomb Raider TV series. The development is still in the early stages, but we know who will take care of the script: Phoebe Waller-Bridge, great protagonist of Fleabag.

Amazon is making a Tomb Raider TV series

The actress will also play the role of executive producer, but will not be the protagonist of the show. The character of Lara Croft has so far been played on the big screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, while Hayley Atwell has lent her voice for an animated series by Netflix. At the moment, the cast of the Tomb Raider TV series and the possible launch window have not been announced. The 2018 cinematic reboot starring Alicia Vikander was not very successful commercially and plans for a sequel were definitively canceled after MGM decided to let the exploitation rights related to the video game franchise expire.

The Tomb Raider universe has now become a full-fledged part of the Amazon family, ready to publish its first single-player game in its line-up. Previously Amazon only published multiplayer games, such as Lost Ark and New World. This is certainly incredible news, because it perfectly outlines what the future of Lara Croft will be, at least at the market level. The TV series could therefore have links or be based on the new video game that will be released in the future.
