An officer was injured after an incident that occurred shortly before 4 p.m. this Monday in the area of Second Avenue and Twelfth Street in the Overtown sector of Miami.
The Miami Police Department detective was in an undercover black patrol car when there appeared to be some kind of altercation and the officer got out of her vehicle and tried to stop the situation, but an as-yet-unidentified subject ran over her with another car.
The suspect tried to escape but officers managed to locate him not far from the area and he is now in the custody of the authorities. However, the police have not yet confirmed what caused the situation to end in this way.
Witnesses at the scene said that it was an attempted robbery in the area and that after the detective intervened, a subject hit her. At that moment a good Samaritan tried to help her and got out of her vehicle.
The officer was transported in serious condition to Jackson Memorial Hospital, her current state of health is unknown at this time.
