It is the latest in a series of controversial protests the group has been staging in Italy to highlight the need to tackle the climate crisis.

Several sensational protests had already been organized in Italy in the past few weeks. In mid-December, for example, the activists blocked the Ponte della Liberta (Freedom Bridge), which connects Venice to the mainland, for half an hour.

On December 7, five members of the climate group were arrested after they spilled blue paint on the facade of the theater ahead of an opera premiere in the presence of Italian President Sergio Mattarella, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
