Actor Bernard Hill, known for Titanic and The Lord of the Rings, dies

LONDON.- He actor british Bernard Hill, who had supporting roles in Titanic y the lord of the ringsdied today -May 5- at the age of 79, his agent reported.

The actor died in the early hours of Sunday, his agent Lou Coulson told the British press.

Originally from Manchester, the performer was best known for playing the captain of the Titanic Edward Smith, in James Cameron’s famous 1997 film.

Hill also played King Thoden of Rohan in the the lord of the ringsbased on the work of JRR Tolkien and which was successful in the 2000s, and many other secondary characters, as in imminent execution (1999), by Clint Eastwood, and in The mountains of the moon (1990), de Bob Rafelson (1990).

The actor also had a long career on British television, where he debuted in the 1980s with a role as an unemployed man in the well-known series Boys from the Blackstuff.

Born on December 17, 1944 in Blackley, Manchester, Bernard Hill attended Xaverian College – known at the time as Xaverian School – and then studied at the Manchester School of Theatre, alongside Richard Griffiths, graduating in 1970.

After his acting studies, debut on stage in John, Paul, George, Ringo… and Bertby Willy Russell, in 1974. This is how Hill continued to play various roles in British and American film and television productions.
