Even a few days later, New Year’s Eve is still a big topic: the riots and violence against rescue workers caused bewilderment, even among experienced helpers. The riots triggered a heated debate about migration policy in Germany. Appropriately, a request from the Berlin CDU is now causing a stir.
The Interior Committee of the Berlin House of Representatives has not yet properly dealt with the New Year’s Eve riots, and there is already a dispute about the form of processing.
The CDU apparently wants to know exactly what nationalities the individual perpetrators who were involved in the New Year’s Eve riots have – very precisely. “What are the first names of the suspects with German nationality?” is just one of the questions that annoys many people online. Sharp criticism from the Greens, SPD and Leftists followed.
