After the police recently warned of the “daughter/son” scam via WhatsApp, two women from Vorarlberg fell victim to fraudsters on Wednesday and Thursday. They could loot several thousand euros.

On Wednesday, December 28, 2022, a woman living in Kleinwalsertal fell for the “daughter/son” scam mostly communicated via WhatsApp and transferred a sum of 2,750 euros to her supposed daughter. In this case, the victim was not contacted via a chat message via WhatsApp, but via SMS. The woman was lucky – her bank was able to stop the transfer in time.

On Thursday, December 29, 2022, a woman living in Dornbirn reported that she had been the victim of the “daughter/son” scam, mostly communicated via WhatsApp. She transferred a total of 10,000 euros to her supposed son in several transfers. The victim was contacted via SMS and was later continued via WhatsApp.
