Airbnb launches in Puerto Rico technology to avoid problematic parties

Airbnb Director of Public Policy and Communications for Central America and the Caribbean Carlos Muñoz announced Monday that reservation analytics technology designed to reduce the risk of “problem parties” has been launched in Puerto Rico.

“We want to help Hosts and communities in Puerto Rico to enjoy the benefits of local tourism while we take steps to minimize misuse by users, as well as negative behaviors that are not welcome in the communities where hosts who use our platform operate. ”, Muñoz said in written statements.

He mentioned that the goal of this system is to help reduce the risk of disruptive parties through Airbnb by taking steps to identify potential high-risk reservations and prevent them from taking place.

The executive said that the technology examines factors related to the guest’s account and reservation, which may indicate a greater risk of this type of incident. These factors include aspects such as the duration of the trip, the distance to the accommodation and whether the reservation is made on a weekend or during the week, among other considerations.

The progress of bringing this technology to Puerto Rico occurs after the official party ban from last year. To stay in line with this ban, the trusted team designed booking analytics technology to help reduce the risk of disruptive parties in order to prevent potential bad users from taking advantage of the platform.

During a recent pilot test of the new booking analytics technology globally, a reduction in party reports was observed in countries where the pilot test was in effect.

Since the anti-party measures were implemented in August 2020, there has been a 55 percent global drop in party reports on the platform in two years. Through measures like booking analytics, Airbnb hopes to continue to amplify this success.
