The President of the Nation, Alberto Fernandez, gave a speech on the national chain this Wednesday from the Marambio base in Argentine Antarctica, together with various officials. The president visited the Antarctic sector as part of the celebration for Argentine Antarctic Day.
“As President of the Nation I feel great pride to be here today, in the Argentine Antarctica”expressed the national president and indicated: “It is an indissoluble part of our country and must be part of our daily life.”
Fernandez I affirm that The fact that the Argentine State is in Antarctica “is an act of justice for our history and our identity” in addition to “recognizing how great we are”.
He president recognized the presence of Argentina, for 119 years and without interruption, in the Antarctic continent. “This ground we walk on is Argentina,” he said and called to promote territorial equality throughout the country.
During his speech, Fernandez insisted on the claim for the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands and assured that the South Atlantic is an important part of Argentina’s territorial and political sovereignty.
“Malvinas is a current cause and it is more than the memory of the war. It is a national cause”said the president and added: “The South Atlantic and our Antarctic territory are a vital enclave of our territorial and political sovereignty.”
Along these lines, the head of state affirmed that with the war in Europe “the nuclear threat once again looms before a humanity that watches impassively as violence and death spread.” “World peace depends on each and every one of us who inhabit the planet”he concluded.
Argentine Antarctic Day
On February 22, 1904, the Argentine flag was raised for the first time in Antarctica, where the world’s first permanent Antarctic base was later installed. On November 26, 1974, after Law No. 20,827 came into force, February 22 was established as Argentine Antarctic Day.
