Speculation continues about a possible candidacy for the re-election of the president / Web

Agustín Rossi and Fernando Navarro are two officials very close to the President. And a few hours after the meeting of the national table of the Frente de Todos that decided to seek to convince Cristina Kirchner to lead the electoral offer of the Frente de Todos, they came out to relativize the possibility that Alberto Fernández is a candidate for re-election.

The Chief of Staff remarked that “the President has not confirmed that he wants to be a candidate for re-election.” And he added: “He has said publicly that he is working to create the conditions for the Frente de Todos to be competitive in the next elections, that he clearly has the political will and the constitutional right to be re-elected, but he will not be an obstacle in the event that be another or another the protagonist that best represents us in the framework of the electoral process”.

For the official “there is a lot of generosity in the President’s eyes to put the collective interest above.”

Those definitions gave way to another. “All the polls indicate Cristina’s electoral potential, which is above the rest of the candidates or those who are measured in those polls, this is clearly the case,” said the new Chief of Staff.

Rossi also acknowledged that it would be “rare” for Alberto Fernández to compete in a Primary, Open, Simultaneous and Mandatory (PASO) election against another leader of the ruling party. A position similar to the one expressed by Kirchnerism at the meeting on Thursday.

For his part, Fernando “Chino” Navarro, one of the President’s allies, warned that he could get out of the electoral contest if he is not competitive.

“Alberto Fernández has raised it publicly, he said it days ago at the meeting. His commitment is that the Frente de Todos is electorally competitive and we can confront the elections in democratic terms and win, ”he said.

Then he warned: “In this framework he says: ‘If I am competitive, if my name in the acceptance of society allows us to have a competitive force, I am a candidate.’ If that circumstance does not occur, he will support the man or woman who is in a position to generate the best electoral result and if it is possible to win the elections.

In the midst of internal tension in the Frente de Todos, Kirchnerism is pressing for the President not to run as a candidate. On the other hand, she is rehearsing an operational outcry to convince Cristina Kirchner to review her decision not to compete, although this move would also aim for the vice president to maintain centrality and decision-making power in the assembly of the ruling party.

In this context, Rossi asked to lower “anxiety” and recalled “political processes have stages.” In this sense, he affirmed: “If there is a candidate that stands out above the rest, surely it will be possible to synthesize in him. If no one is there, I think it’s a mistake to try to synthesize on someone who doesn’t do it naturally. That generates discomfort and frustration, and there the best thing would be to take a few STEPs”.

Regarding the supposed “ban” of Cristina, Rossi elaborated. “You have to explain why Cristina is banned. We have to be very clear and explain that it is true that it is a conviction in the first instance, but the handling of time in Justice is done by the same Justice that we have today, the same that has just ignored a resolution approved by an absolute majority in the Senate that appointed Doñate as the representative of the second minority before the Council of the Magistracy. So, with this Judiciary, it is possible to think that if Cristina maintained her possibility of being a candidate or left that expectation latent, the terms would be shortened in such a way that the sentence could be final at the edge of the election.
