American actor Alec Baldwin will be charged with manslaughter after accidentally killing a woman while filming, Santa Fe County District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced Thursday, January 19. The armorer of the film, who had handled the weapon, is targeted by the same charge, said the prosecutor.
On October 21, 2021, Halyna Hutchins, director of photography for the film “Rust”, was fatally shot by the shooting of a revolver that the American actor handled during the rehearsal of a scene. The weapon was supposed to contain only blanks, but a very real projectile killed the 42-year-old woman and injured director Joel Souza.
The production of the western, which itself tells the story of an accidental homicide, had been stopped after the tragedy, and must resume at the start of the year.
