Guest of “BFM Politique” this Sunday, the Minister of Economy and Finance says he has no desire to join Matignon, believing that France “needs stability”.

A little over a month after the rejection of two motions of censure, Elisabeth Borne is still in office, at least until the summer, after the “100 days of appeasement, unity, ambition and ‘action in the service of France’, promised by Emmanuel Macron. But some names circulate to replace it. Asked this Sunday in BFM Politics on his ambitions for Matignon, Bruno Le Maire refutes any wish in this direction.

“What tempts me is to stay where I am. France needs stability. Elisabeth Borne is a very good Prime Minister and I work well with her,” said the Minister of Economy and Finance.

“As far as I am concerned, in my area of economics and finance, I am an apostle of stability,” he added.

It’s up to Macron “to judge the ministers”

Is a reshuffle still on the agenda? According to the former deputy for Eure, only the President of the Republic will decide, with the Prime Minister. “It is up to him to judge the ministers, certainly not one of his ministers,” he concluded.

At the end of March, according to an Odoxa Backbone-consulting survey for Le Figaro, 6 out of 10 French people are in favor (61%) of a major cabinet reshuffle including the departure of Elisabeth Borne. But beyond a reshuffle, it is above all the departure of the latter that was desired: thus, the idea of a new government with the maintenance of the Prime Minister only garnered 22% of favorable opinions.

Au Parisianin early April, Elisabeth Borne claimed in any case to be “at (her) task” because she considered herself “still to be useful in the crisis” through which the country was going.

The Prime Minister is due to receive the unions on May 16 and 17. The CGT confirmed on Saturday that its general secretary Sophie Binet would go to Matignon.
