After a start to the year 2023 marked by a drought in Algeria, the winter weather is finally making its entrance with rain, snow, but also a cold snap.

Indeed, for this Wednesday, January 18, 2023, the rain will mark its big return with snow and a cold snap in several wilayas of Algeria.

In its vigilance map, the National Meteorology Office (ONM) places 18 wilayas of the country on orange vigilance alert signed “Snow and Ice”.

These are indeed the following wilayas: Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Mascara, Relizane, Chlef, Tissemsilt, Ain Defla, Médéa, Blida, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Jijel, Sétif, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Bouira, Tiaret and Sayda.

According to Météo Algérie, the validity of the alert will extend from yesterday Tuesday until Wednesday in the early evening.

What is the weather forecast for Algiers on January 18?

In addition to the 18 wilayas concerned by the orange vigilance alert, in the coastal regions, in the north of Algeria, the meteorological office announced on Wednesday a completely overcast sky in the center, including Algiers, to the east and very gray in the west.

Inside the country, the same phenomenon is observed: a gray sky with showers in the East. Overcast skies will also be present in western Algeria, but with strong winds.

In the great Sahara, the wilayas of the west will experience a very blue sky, like Béchar, Adrar, Tindouf and, as well as in the east.

On the other hand, temperatures will experience a slight increase and will vary between 6 and 15 degrees on the coast, between 5 and 14 degrees in the wilayas of the interior, and between 17 and 26 degrees in the far south.
