Woman arrested in Miami accused of murdering her 8-year-old son

A woman was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after strangling her 8-year-old son, Miami-Dade police reported this Thursday.

Shaneka Ann McKinzie, 36, allegedly strangled his son, Jaisyn Burgos, to death while the minor slept in the back seat of his vehicle. He used a tablecloth to suffocate him until he stopped responding.

Police reported that after driving with the unconscious child through several areas of the county last Tuesday, they finally took him to the Hialeah hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The autopsy performed on the minor determined that the cause of death was strangulation.

McKinzie later confessed to investigators that he had been planning to kill his son for two days before doing so.

At the time of writing this note, the motive for the horrendous crime has not been revealed.

Given the seriousness of the events, Judge Mindy S. Glazer refused to grant McKenzie the right to bail.

The defendant, who is from Sikeston, Missouri, remains in the Turner Guilford Knight (TGK) prison in Miami-Dade County.
