Almost three decades after the criminal sinking of the Tugboat "March 13"

Today marks the 29th anniversary of one of the greatest crimes of the dictatorship, when on July 13, 1994, the tugboat “13 de Marzo” sank and murdered 10 Cuban children and 31 adults, who were only trying to leave the island in one of the hardest moments of those difficult years of the Special Period in Cuba.

Several survivors of the tragedy have recounted how three dictatorship vessels, the tugboats Polargo 2, Polargo 3 and Polargo 5, sank the tugboat “13 March” with their ramming against the ship and the powerful jets of pressurized water that caused 41 Cubans drowned in a strong tidal wave.

On this 29th anniversary of the crime of the Tugboat “March 13”, several legislators from South Florida today remembered this murder of innocent Cubans, including children. Senator Marco Rubio said that justice will be done and history will always remember those who died in one of the many innumerable crimes of the dictatorship against Cubans.

For his part, Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart recalled today that he continued to demand that those responsible for the deliberate sinking of the Tugboat “13 de Marzo” be brought to justice for their crimes; while Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar expressed on Twtter that all the perversity of the Cuban regime was shown 29 years ago with the sinking of the tugboat “March 13”, adding that this demonstrated how miserable the Castro mafia is.
