The PS5 saves the end of the year from Sony. With 25 million units already sold in November, the end-of-year celebrations should allow the Japanese manufacturer to sell a total of 35 million consoles worldwide. These sales reassure Sony after observing a sharp drop in the number of users compared to last year.
The PS5’s commercial trajectory is comparable to an old diesel vehicle. When it was released in 2020, sales of the new console were shy and disappointing. Today the demand is such that the Japanese brand is struggling to satisfy buyers. The shortage of certain electronic components had also caused supply shortages in many countries. However, Sony should announce, at the beginning of January, the crossing of the milestone of 35 million units sold. A remarkable score but which remains, all the same, lower than that of the sales made by the PS4 in its time.
Acquiring the new PS5 is still a real challenge today. Sony also confirmed, at the beginning of December, that the end of the shortage of its new console is planned for 2023. From January, the Asian markets should be able to meet the demand of their customers. A few weeks later, European and American buyers should receive their long-awaited toy.

Overall disappointing results for the Japanese brand
And yes, despite the very satisfactory sales of PS5, the Japanese brand is however showing mixed results for this year 2022. According to the figures communicated by Sony, in the space of a year, the PlayStation Plus service would have lost around 1.8 million subscribers (from 47.2 million in 2021 to 45.4 in 2022). In addition, the number of games sold by the platform is also down compared to last year.
Finally, another piece of data is unlikely to comfort the Sony teams: the monthly number ofactive users on their console. Two million users also disappeared from Sony’s radar, pushing the total number of active users per month from 104 to 102 million.
