Alton youth sentenced to 10 years in prison after admitting to dealing cocaine

McALLEN, Texas – Jesús Roberto Reyes Gutiérrez, 27, of Alton, was sentenced to serve ten years in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 22 kilograms of cocaine, District Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani announced in a statement from press.

Reyes Gutiérrez pleaded guilty on April 6.

On Tuesday, US District Judge Randy Crane ordered Reyes-Gutiérrez to also serve five years of supervised release.

On July 6, Reyes Gutierrez was traveling on Highway 77 in Bishop driving a black Jeep Grand Cherokee. Authorities conducted a traffic stop after observing the driver of the vehicle committing a minor infraction.

A subsequent search of the car revealed 20 packages of cocaine weighing approximately 22 kilograms. The drugs had an approximate street value of more than $500,000 at the time of the arrest.

At the time of pleading guilty, Reyes-Gutierrez admitted that he had driven to Mexico to pick up the narcotics. He returned to the United States through the Anzalduas port of entry and traveled to the northern Rio Grande Valley.

Reyes Gutierrez will remain in custody pending transfer to a US Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
