Do you remember the Ring Always Home Cam? This is an inconspicuous cube that is more reminiscent of an automatic air freshener. A small drone slumbers inside, which has a camera at its lower end. If it is activated, the drone flies to a location you have specified at home and shows you this via the camera image. As soon as the drone notices that its battery is running low, it flies back to its dock on its own. The device can start autonomously when a trigger in one of the rooms requests it, or it can be sent to one of the rooms by command. According to Amazon If the recording should only take place during the flight phase, the camera is then blocked in the dock anyway. Amazon points out that the device is loud enough that there is no need to worry that the small drone could quickly spy on you in the guest bathroom or elsewhere.
The device could now officially be viewed as a demo at CES 2023. Actually, the small drone should have gone on sale last year, but the ideal implementation of collision avoidance is still lacking. For example, the lidar sensors could not easily recognize when a mirror or a pane of glass is in the way. That’s why they’re probably still working on a solution that would allow the drone to simply try to land on the spot if it’s unsure of its surroundings. Thus, she then avoids flying back to base and risking a possible collision.
Opposite TheVerge Jamie Siminoff, the head behind the drone, said that for a retail price of $2,000, it probably could have been launched a long time ago, since the necessary sensors could then have been accommodated with it. Other solutions are needed for the targeted price of just under $250. Siminoff expects the drone to be widely available in the direction of 2024.
