Amazon Music Unlimited will have a subscription price increase in Japan next month. According to the digitalmusicnews website, subscribing to the Amazon Music Unlimited streaming service will increase the amount charged for the individual plan (not to be confused with Amazon Prime Music). This decision to change the price comes shortly after the increase in Apple Music and Deezer plans, which currently cost R$ 21.90 and R$ 22.90, respectively.

According to Tokyo’s AV Watch, Amazon Music Unlimited will have a change to its individual plan on February 21st. However, it is important to mention that the streaming service has not yet formally communicated about the change in the amounts charged.

AV Watch says that Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers will be charged approximately $13 (¥1,680) per month for the individual plan. Previously, it charged around US$11.50 (¥1,480). For reference, in Japan Amazon Prime costs $3.88 (¥500) per month.

What could happen to the price of subscriptions to streaming services?

Analyzing the movement of the market, it is highly likely that Amazon Music Unlimited will have an increase in the value of its subscriptions globally, as at the end of 2022 we already have an increase in Apple Music and Deezer, which offer lossless music streaming, as well like the Amazon platform. Spotify has plans to offer a new subscription plan that features lossless audio files, but the company has yet to say when it would actually roll out the feature to the general public.
