How often do you come across films and TV series with such mixed voices and dialogue that you are forced to turn on subtitles in order to understand what the characters are saying at all? More often than not, my answer to that question would be, and now it seems that Amazon doesn’t just agree with me — they want to fix the problem.

Amazon Prime boasts that they have now launched the first and only service that gives you the ability to use AI technology to turn up the dialogue in the audio mix without affecting other audio. Some newer TV sets and sound systems already offer similar boost functions, but not dedicated via the streaming service.

Currently, the feature is only available on English-speaking, so-called Amazon originals series such as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and Harlem, and the films The Big Sick, Being the Ricardos and Beautiful Boy. More titles will be added to the list during the year, but the question is whether the function will also be offered on products other than Amazon’s own, and whether languages other than English will be available in the future.

Excuse me what did you say?
