LOS ANGELES.- The Barbenheimer continues with the awards season. So much Barbie as Oppenheimer are among 10 films that will receive an AFI award in January, the American Film Institute reported. Cine (AFI for its acronym in English).
The organization recognizes a wide range of the year’s best films, including blockbusters, an animated feature, independent films, and releases from both streaming services and traditional studios. Honorees include Killers of the Flower Moon by Martin Scorsese; The Holdoversde Alexander Payne; Past Lives, by Celine Song; and Poor Things, by Yorgos Lanthimos. There is also a list of Netflix films: May December (Secrets of a Scandal), by Todd Haynes; and Maestroby Bradley Cooper, as well as the Sony animated film Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (Spider-Man: A travs del spider-verso).
Cinema in the midst of difficult times
“As our nation and our world continue to navigate difficult times, AFI is honored to shine an appropriate light on these works of art that uplift us and ultimately lead us to empathy,” said Bob Gazzale, president and CEO of AFI. . That we do so without competition is the hallmark of AFI, and we are proud to bring together this community of artists, as one, to celebrate their extraordinary contributions to our time.
AFI also awards 10 television programs. This year they were elected: Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Beef, Jury Duty, The Last of Us, The Morning Show, Only Murders in the Building, Poker Face, Reservation Dogs, y Succession.
The jury included directors such as Gina Prince-Bythewood, Paris Barclay, authors and film scholars Mark Harris and Leonard Maltin, as well as critics Ann Hornaday, Janet Maslin, Mary McNamara and Peter Travers.
The winners will be celebrated at a private luncheon in Los Angeles on January 12.
