The telecommunications company América Móvil (AMX) and the self-service chain Walmart de México y Centroamérica (Walmex) are the two Mexican companies on the Stock Market with the highest income.

At the end of March, in the last 12 months, AMX had revenues of 856,746 million pesos (or 47,488 million dollars), according to data from its quarterly reports and from Economática.

For its part, Walmex had sales in the same period of 837.400 million pesos or 46.415 million dollars.

Both companies exceed FEMSA in revenue (705,646 million pesos), the owner of the Oxxo convenience stores, as well as the Bimbo bakery (407,816 million pesos) and the Monterrey conglomerate Alfa (359,234 million pesos).

AMX and Walmex are only surpassed in income by Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), which, unlike the first two, is a state-owned production company and does not have shares listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange.

Pemex accumulated income in the last 12 months at the end of the first quarter of 2023 for 2.23 trillion pesos. In 2022, its sales received an additional boost from increases in international oil prices.

Most of AMX’s revenues come from telephone and Internet services, with 81% of its total sales originating from this concept. The remaining 19% is income from the sale of equipment, according to its latest quarterly report.

In addition, for AMX, Mexico is its main market, with close to 41% of its income coming from the country, followed by the Brazilian market, which represents 19% of its sales.

In Mexico, 73% of its income is from sales in the cellular segment (telephony and data services) and 27% is from fixed telephone and Internet services.

In 2022, Carlos Slim’s company reported that for the first time in its history it obtained more income from the Internet than from traditional telephone services.

According to information sent to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), 51% of its sales came from its Internet operations.

Aurrera, main support

Walmex is the largest self-service chain in Mexico, with a total of 2,870 stores at the end of the first quarter of 2023 and almost 50% of all sales of the chains that make up the National Association of Self-Service and Department Stores (ANTAD). .

Walmart de México y Centroamérica had sales in Mexico for 170,902 million pesos in Mexico in the period January-March 202.

For its part, ANTAD reported accumulated sales of 345.800 million pesos.

Most of the Walmex stores (2,300) are of the Bodega Aurrera format, while 303 units are Walmart, according to data from its latest quarterly report.

In addition, 167 supermarkets are Sam’s Club, while the remaining 100 units are of the new Walmart Express format (formerly the Superama brand).

The company does not break down its income for each of the franchises it has.
