A terrible explosion destroyed a house in the town of Santos Lugares, in the Buenos Aires district of Tres de Febrero, when employees of a gas company were trying to repair a leak. The detonation also caused damage in the area and at least six people were injured. In addition, some 40 families had to be evacuated within a radius of 100 meters.
Everything would have started around 7:00 p.m., when police and fire personnel were alerted to a strong smell of gas at the intersection of Almafuerte and Williams streets. Officers closed off the street until a crew arrived. The detonation finally occurred while they were working on the scene.
As a consequence, a house, which also houses a law firm, was destroyed. Likewise, a policeman, two firefighters and three civilians had to be transferred to hospitals.
“Apparently it is a gas leak due to a broken pipe in one of the houses, or some tank, which could cause the episode, there are six injured and forty families evacuated,” reported Bautista Pino, the municipality’s chief of staff.
“The evacuated families were transferred to a sports center, while seventeen fire crews continued to work, controlling the situation, ringing in all the houses to evacuate to safe places,” added the official.
Through a statement, the distributor Nature indicated: “When the staff of the gas distributor’s Emergency Care Center attended, due to having received a complaint of a broken pipe, three collaborators, who work for one of the distributor’s contractor companies, were injured when they tried to control the incident. They were immediately treated by health personnel and fortunately no one has serious injuries. Their relatives have already been contacted and both they and their families have the company’s support.”
“We are working with the Municipal Authorities, Firefighters, Civil Defense and Health Personnel to control the incident and the gas leak, a task that is estimated to be completed soon. Likewise, they are collaborating to determine the origin of the explosion,” he added. the company.
