The actress is teaming up with her brother Alex to launch a gin flavored with Burgundy grapes and distilled in England.

British actress Emma Watson, revealed by her role as Hermione Granger in the saga Harry Potter, launches a business in Burgundy. The 33-year-old artist announces the launch of a gin brand, Renais, in collaboration with his brother Alex. A spirit based on a grape “grown in France, distilled in England”, as the site explains.

“Renais is an ode to the vineyards of Chablis, where my family has been producing wine for 30 years”, writes the actress on Instagram, in the caption of a promotional photo where she appears with her brother. “Renais Gin is our love letter to Chablis.”

“Inspired by Burgundy”, Renais is presented as the continuity of a family history: Chris Watson, lawyer and father of the actress, has owned a wine estate in Chablis, in Yonne, since the 2000s. THE domaine Watson produces Chablis and Irancy. It is part of this area that come from the “Grand cru, hand-picked” grapes that are used to make Renais gin.

Between France and England

The idea is that of Alex, who worked in the marketing of many alcohol brands for years before embarking on this adventure. The actress presents herself as a creative partner.

The Financial Times, who interviewed the family, details the process of making the gin: the raw alcohol is produced in a Beaujolais distillery from Burgundy grapes. The drink is then distilled in the north of England, where the other ingredients are added.

“Renais is also proud to be a carbon neutral product, and has made it its mission to help reduce waste”, can we read on the Instagram account of the brand.

Absent from the trays

After ten years spent shooting films Harry PotterEmma Watson continued her career in Hollywood with films like The perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring or Beauty is the Beast. His last screen appearance dates back to Daughters of Doctor Marchby Greta Gerwig, released in early 2020. An absence she confided in:

“I think I felt a bit caged,” she told the Financial Times. “I started to find it really frustrating, because I didn’t have a voice, I didn’t have a say.”

Nevertheless, she does not close the door to a return to the cinema: “I’m waiting for the next good project to come along.”
