It was when Annika Söderberg was driving between Dalarö and Handen outside Stockholm that a deer jumped out from the left side of the road.

– It came straight in front of the car so I didn’t have time to brake.

She stopped the car and ran to the deer and saw that it was moving.

– I did not know what to do. I just shook. You get a bit cut and I’ve never driven anything before, she says.

“Took 17 minutes”

First, Annika Söderberg called the game warden, who said she should call 112. Minutes passed while the signals honked, but no one answered the emergency number.

– I just walked around there and thought what should I do. This is not true, it cannot happen.

Only after about 17 minutes did someone answer and ask what had happened, she says.

– I am scared and upset. And despairing, there are so many emotions.

The deer quickly died of its own accord, and no one else was injured. But Annika Söderberg thinks about what would have happened if something worse had happened.

– Imagine if someone had a cardiac arrest or if something really serious happened and you couldn’t get there, it’s a disaster.

SOS Alarm: “Unlikely”

When SVT talks to SOS Alarm, Staffan Ekengren, head of communications, says that it is unlikely that anyone had to wait that long.

– We have had a fairly quiet day. Those who have had to wait the longest have had to wait 90 seconds for an answer, he says.

At the time that Annika Söderberg called, Staffan Ekengren says that the response time was 14.7 seconds.

– When we look at that claim against the facts that we have, we cannot see that this would be likely. We have no indication that a call had to wait that long.

When asked what might have happened in Annika Söderberg’s case, he says that he cannot speculate on that.

– We have had no technical problems today, and we have had good staffing.

When SVT takes part in Annika Söderberg’s call history to 112, it appears that she has an outgoing call that lasted 21 minutes and 48 seconds.

– Once I arrived, we didn’t speak for more than five minutes before they said I could leave, she says.
