Another chaotic day was experienced on Thursday at the Jorge Newbery and Ezeiza airports, due to strong storms that caused more than 150 flight delays and cancellations. Although the situation began to normalize in the late afternoon, the National Meteorological Service maintains a yellow alert for rain and storms.

During the morning, a “Red Alert” was declared at both airports due to the presence of lightning on the runways, which open and close intermittently, and all activity in the area was suspended as a precaution. The shipments stipulated for that time were also cancelled.

At the Jorge Newbery Airport, most of the flights that were delayed were suspended: late in the afternoon, there were more than 80 cancellations and more than 10 diversions. In Ezeiza, for its part – where up to 26 planes had been registered with delays between international and domestic – there were only 12 delayed, 9 with cancellations and another two that were diverted.

Aerolíneas Argentinas had 300 trips scheduled for this Thursday and announced that 137 were suspended. It was an average of between 4 and 5 cancellations per hour that affected 16 thousand passengers. These were relocated on flights that will leave between Friday and Saturday.

For its part, JetSmart, recorded more than 25 canceled flights and a dozen Flybondi had suffered the same fate, such as the regional flights of Latam, Gol and Sky that also suffered the consequences of bad weather.

Likewise, the SMN issued a yellow warning for Río Negro, Chubut and Santa Cruz due to snowfall, where an accumulation of snow between 15 and 30 cm is expected, with the possibility that these values ​​may be exceeded in specific situations.
