Three suspects in Meriden riot arrested

Police arrested four suspects following a street racing incident on a street in Meriden, Connecticut in May. Late last month, police released a video showing people jumping on the police car while trying to identify the suspects.

It was the evening of May 6 when officers responded to the parking lot of the Lowe’s Outlet Store at 1201 East Main St. in Meriden just before 11 pm after receiving reports that several vehicles were illegally parked there.

When officers arrived, a person waving a flag representing Mexico flagged down a group of 30 to 40 people and they surrounded an officer in a marked patrol car, preventing him from driving in any direction, police said.

Meriden police said multiple people were seen and heard on the patrol car’s dash cam “shouting obscenities, giving the middle finger, recording the officer, taunting other rioters, making obscene sexual gestures, among other rude and riotous activities.” ”.

As the officer tried to disperse the crowd, several people jumped on the hood of the police car and danced on top of it, damaging the vehicle, police said, and the officer had to back out of the crowd as more people approached. .

Police said people blocked the additional officers from helping to disperse the crowd.
