Stockholm’s commuter train traffic has suffered major disruptions and canceled departures since train drivers went on a wild strike during the night to Monday – and the difficult situation for commuters will continue on Tuesday.

– The way it looks now, it seems that there will be just as extensive disturbances today as yesterday, with very limited traffic carried out by the commuter trains, says Henrik Palmér, press spokesperson at the Transport Administration.

According to his data, approximately 20 percent of commuter train traffic will be able to run, compared to a normal day.

SL increases traffic with buses

SL will also increase traffic with buses on Tuesday, partly on a number of sections towards the end stations and partly to transport passengers to neighboring metro stations.

Travelers are asked to keep track of the traffic situation via SL’s website or app.

Strike for three days

The illegal strike, organized by individual employees, began at three in the morning on Monday and will last for three days. The origin of the train drivers’ protest action is a dissatisfaction with the fact that the train stewards have been abolished, which means solitary work for the drivers.

The Seko trade union, which organizes the majority of train drivers, has distanced itself from the strike.

MTR, which runs commuter train traffic on behalf of Stockholm’s local traffic, stated on Monday that they require a sick certificate from day one due to the strike.
