A 2-0 lead disappeared a week ago – and a 2-0 lead disappeared today. After two lead-heavy games, Arsenal are under pressure in the battle for gold.

A loss that saw the Premier League title slip away?

Arsenal supporters are forced to ask that question after another disappointment in the battle for gold in England. The away match against the bottom team West Ham ended 2-2 and now Arsenal have to look over their shoulder with fear.

Manchester City easily beat Leicester on Saturday night and have taken four points from two games. The big team has one less game played than the league leader and also has the home meeting with Arsenal still to play.

– I am extremely disappointed. I can’t say if the pressure has increased on us, I don’t know how heavy it was a couple of months ago. We can’t control it, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports.

Arsenal team captain Martin Ødegaard has not buried the hatchet.

– We still lead the league and have everything in our own hands. We must continue to think in the same way and have the same attitude to take a victory in the next round, says the Norwegian to Sky Sports.

Same development as last weekend

The development of events in East London was thought to be getting on when the first quarter was played. Arsenal started brilliantly and had an early 2-0 lead, but the Gunners once again learned that a strong start does not mean much.

Last weekend against Liverpool, Arsenal lost a two-goal lead after a late equaliser, and almost the same thing happened today. Arsenal melted like snow in the spring sun and at the start of the second half Jarrod Bowen scored to make it 2-2.

Just before the equaliser, Bukayo Saka had the opportunity to make it 3-1 from the penalty spot, but the Englishman missed the target – and these were the nightmare minutes that frame Arsenal’s last week.

– Very reminiscent of last week. After a nice start, we stopped playing and gave West Ham the match picture they wanted. We set them on fire and we have to take it upon ourselves, says Ødegaard.

After the last two points drops, Arsenal have burned their lifelines. The London team will need points from the series final away to Man City in order to be able to salvage the club’s first Premier League title since 2004.
