Puerto Rican Howard Roche won a bronze medal this Saturday in the 55kg weightlifting event at the Central American and Caribbean Games held at the Cuna del Mágico in the Salvadoran capital.
This is the third medal for Puerto Rico in San Salvador 2023.
The weightlifting competition had been delayed one day due to heavy rain, thunder and lightning in the city where the “La cuna del Mágico González” coliseum is located. Roche was on a diet to meet his weight and finally compete for the medal.
Colombian Miguel Suárez won gold in the category. The 23-year-old athlete, three-time champion of the Pan American Weightlifting Championship, achieved a record of 106 kilograms in the snatch, with which he beat the Cuban Raibet Machado and the surprising Howard Roche, from Puerto Rico.
They each lifted 106 kilograms and both took silver and bronze, respectively.
