Apple has just rolled out iOS 16.3.1 with several fixes and improvements. The new update brings crash detection feature optimization along with fixes for iCloud and Siri.

iOS 16.3.1 is a minor update to Apple’s mobile operating system. The biggest iOS 16.3 update was released last month with several fixes, a new wallpaper, and Apple ID security keys to boost your account security. The new iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8 are equipped with crash detection functionality. This allows to contact emergency services, especially if you are not able to do it yourself. However, this feature was not precise enough until now. Fake calls have been on the rise all over the world, which is obviously a nightmare for overwhelmed rescue teams.

Will iOS 16.3.1 mark the end of fake emergency calls?

iOS 16.3.1 therefore optimizes accident detection in order to to avoid false calls in the future. The patch notes confirm ” Collision detection optimizations on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models “. However, we have no further information on the nature of these optimizations. This is nevertheless good news, especially since the ski resorts are not yet closed. In fact, the majority of false calls occur while skiing when the iPhone fails to tell the difference between the jolts of a descent and a real crash.

Additionally, iOS 16.3.1 also brings fixes for iCloud and Siri. An iCloud bug prevented the service from working properly for some users. For example, iCloud settings were not displaying correctly when another app was using iCloud.

As for Siri, Apple fixed the issue that prevented the voice assistant from responding to the “Find My” request. This allows users to find their iPhone, AirPods, Apple Watch and other apple products in case of loss or theft.
