Increasingly popular as an alternative to linear television: media libraries. The ARD is also happy about the growing number of viewings. You can find an overview of what the broadcaster network has to offer here.
2021 recorded the ARD media library more than two billion video views. This is an increase of 62 percent over the previous year. The reason for this is not only the corona pandemic, which has changed viewing behavior, but also the investment in your own streaming platform: it has long since ceased to be used only for the secondary use of broadcast content. More and more exclusively produced formats are available. For others, the following applies: online first, ie programs are available before they are broadcast on TV.

New movies in March
With “Small Axe”, ARD is bringing five films to the media library for the International Day Against Racism in March, the 2020 Oscar winner Steve McQueen developed.
Alex Wheatle
The true story of the eponymous Jamaican writer who grew up in a British foster home as the only black boy. During the Brixton riots in April 1981, which took place between black youths and the police, he ends up in prison – and there he unexpectedly discovers his passion for literature, which takes him on a completely new path.
The film will be shown on ARD on March 20 at 8:15 p.m. At the March 18th the whole series can already be seen in the media library. The four other films “Mangrove”, “Lovers Rock”, “Red White and Blue” and “Education” also tell of relevant, but above all true, events. The European Film Academy honored the series, calling it “innovative” and “groundbreaking”. So it’s worth looking at!

My wild journey to myself
It sometimes takes a few tries to find your own way in life – this half-hour documentary tells about them. Growing up is often a challenge for young people like Simone. The 18-year-old was accompanied as she left her home village and set out into the wide world. Together with her dog and two wild horses, she embarks on a two-year journey that takes her to Denmark and back to the Bavarian mountains. It is up to you whether it will also reach you in the end 6th March in the media library or on March 8th at 11:55 p.m. in the first.
Out into the country
The four-part documentary series follows city dwellers who want to make a fresh start in the country. But is life there really as dreamy as you imagine it to be? A step to the abyss
Petra Schmidt-Schaller is the focus of this thriller series. In four 45-minute parts, she slowly approaches the ‘abyss’: the facade of Jana’s seemingly perfect life cracks when she sees a strange hair on her husband’s scarf. An actually banal discovery that calls everything into question, but which she keeps to herself. She is secretly investigating Christian. Deutschland3000 – The week with Eva Schulz
Already in her podcast of the same name “Deutschland3000”, Eva Schulz showed a talent for entertaining conversations and skilfully moved between serious and entertaining topics with the celebrities. In this new program from the ‘Infotainment’ category, from the March 16th every Thursday current topics from the Politics are discussed, which the journalist negotiates with two guests and brings the audience closer to them in a relaxed way.

Stalk (Season 2)
French series about a young computer science student Lux (Théo Fernandez) who responds to bullying as a talented super hacker in the first season. By gaining access to his enemies’ devices, cameras and microphones, he gains insight into their most intimate moments. Now the tables are apparently being turned: someone else is suddenly at work at the university stalker around who appears to want to harm Lux – for revenge?
The second season is about 22 minutes with ten episodes from February 21st can be seen in the media library. At the 27th of February the linear transmission takes place around 8:15 p.m. on ONE.
Thunder in my heart
The Swedish coming-of-age series is about the longings of a 22-year-old: her own apartment, love, fun with friends. Sigrid, called ‘Sigge’, gets the feeling on her way into adult life that sometimes simple wishes like these are not so easy to fulfill. 8 x 30-minute episodes tell of the attempts and difficulties to somehow reach the goal despite emotional and family turmoil. The creator and main actress of the series is singer/songwriter Amy Deasismont, who has long been celebrated as a pop star in her home country.
From February 24th “Thunder in my heart” is available in the media library, am February 22nd and 23rd takes place linear broadcast on SWR television.

Ohjaaa – Your Lust (Season 3)
The documentary series produced by WDR is already entering its third round. From February 6th six new 30-minute episodes return to sex and talking about sex when Yared Dibaba and Annabell Neuhof report on (often very personal) experiences related to love and lust. The series is thus committed to a more open social approach to the topic.
Highlights of the winter sports season: Biathlon and Ski World Championships
The winter sports season has started: From the February 8th ARD broadcasts highlights and interesting facts from the Biathlon World Cup from Oberhof. On February 15th there is a live broadcast. At the same time, the Alpine Ski World Championships will start in France from February 16th is transferred.

The secret garden
In the British feature film, the girl Mary (Dixi Egerickx) moves in with her uncle (Colin Firth) and, after a childhood in India, initially struggles with English conditions. Fire, creaking, squealing tires, wild chases: In this one Action comedy gets down to business. Two Icelandic police officers, extremely convinced of themselves and their masculinity, investigate what aren’t robberies – and fall in love. How does that fit together?
Also there is heartthrob Rúrik Gíslason, who danced on “Let’s Dance” in this country and now seems to be trying to be an actor after his football career. In Iceland, the film delivered the most successful theatrical release of all time and was also shown in German cinemas in June. ARD Crime Time: On the trail of the ice-cold host of the scene
The three-part series is about the discovery of a woman’s corpse, which turns out to be the well-known It girl Irina M. The ‘icy-cold landlord’ is suspected of the murder: Jan M. is a big name in the Frankfurt nightclub scene and drives the investigators to search for clues in a shady milieu. The 30 minute episodes are exclusively online from January 19th to see.
50 years of “Sesame Street”
