At noon the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa; the president of the AFA, Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia and the Minister of Tourism and Sport, Matías Lammenstogether with other executives that make up the small table of the Argentine Football Association (AFA)confirmed that Argentina submitted the guarantees to FIFA and that will host the next Under 20 World Championshipwhich will take place from May 20 to June 11.

The event took place at the Ministry of Economy, where the head of said portfolio revealed that “the Argentina has the necessary financing to be able to carry out the ecumenical tournament”, after the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) withdraw the candidacy of Indonesiabecause that country does not recognize Israel as a sovereign State and opposed the participation of that nation in the contest.

In this way, the FIFA will allow the participation of the selected sub-20 of the AFAas the organizing country, despite not having qualified.

Tapia was accompanied by the leaders of the AFA, Rodolfo D’Onofrio (River Plate), david garzon (Hurricane), Marcelo Achilles (Defenders of Belgrano), Guillermo Raed (Mitre de Santiago del Estero) and the general secretary, Victor White (Racing Club), among others.

Prior to this noon announcement, the Government published a decree that authorizes tools for the application, which indicates: “Given the importance of the upcoming event, it is considered appropriate to authorize the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to sign the documents that constitute the necessary government guarantees in the framework of the application for the celebration of the event called ‘Copa FIFA U-20 Men’s World Cup 2023”.

The regulations bear the signatures of the president Alberto Fernandezthe chief of staff, Agustín Rossi; and the ministers Matías Lammens (Tourism and Sports) and Diego Giuliano (Transport).

WILL LA PLATA BE HEADQUARTERS?

One of the main doubts is knowing how many will be the venues since, according to versions, there could be five or six.

The FIFA technical team that has already arrived in the country, made up of a dozen people, is in charge of analyzing three fundamental aspects: hotels, training centers and the complete infrastructure of the stadiums. They will review the options of each province, analyze and warn of modifications if necessary.

The stadiums that have possibilities so far are: the Estadio Único Diego Armando Maradona de La Plata, the Estadio del Bicentenario de San Juan, the Estadio La Pedrera de San Luis, the Malvinas Argentinas de Mendoza, the Único Madres de Ciudades de Santiago del Estero, Father Martearena from Salta, Carlos Augusto Mercado Luna from La Rioja and the Centennial of Resistance in Chaco.

The World Cup should begin on Saturday May 20 with the debut of the Argentine National Team: the host leads Group A and usually plays the opening game.
