Close to 400 painters will go on strike at 12 noon on Friday, unless the parties agree on an agreement at the last moment, Aftonbladet reports.

– Many are surprised by Måleriföretagen’s tough demands to remove the competence requirement and expand probationary employment, says Lars Jahnke, painter and conflict manager, to Målarna facktidning, in a statement on the association’s website.

The union said no

The employers’ side said late on Thursday evening yes to a mediation offer, while the union said no.

– We have rejected it in its entirety. It was a rather unbalanced bid, says Johan Reden of the Målareförbundet to Ekot in Sveriges Radio.

The employers want to remove the skills requirement in the collective agreement and that the probationary periods be longer.

– This is what our members are prepared to strike to prevent. Without requirements for professional competence, status and salary will drop, says Lars Jahnke, to Målarna facktidning.
