Arrest accused of killing his ex-partner's boyfriend in Aguas Buenas

Police Commissioner Antonio López Figueroa reported this Friday the arrest of Aníbal Yamil Martínez Díaz, 22, accused of murdering Jonathan Rosado Reyes, 21, in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Aguas Buenas.

Martínez Díaz was detained at the Luis Muñoz Marín airport.

According to the investigation by the Caguas Homicide Division, Martínez Díaz caused the death of Rosado Reyes by shooting him with a firearm on June 1.

Rosado Reyes worked as a water haulage driver and had no criminal record. He was in a sentimental relationship with the defendant’s ex-partner.

He was shot at while sharing with his girlfriend.

Martínez Díaz, also a resident of Aguas Buenas, was wanted by the Intelligence and Arrests division of the Police, after fleeing the island to the state of Florida. Against him was an arrest warrant with a total bail of $600,000, issued by Judge Ingrid Caro, of the Caguas Court, after hearing the evidence presented by the Caguas Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident occurred on June 1, 2023, at around 10:15 p.m. According to the police investigation, Rosado Reyes was shot by the defendant when he was in a motor vehicle in the company of a young woman with whom Martínez Díaz had had a previous love affair. The young woman fled the scene unharmed.

For these facts, prosecutor Wanda Samalot Rodríguez, of the Caguas Prosecutor’s Office, filed charges in absentia for first degree murder, shooting another person with a firearm and using a firearm, under articles 93A and 6.14B of the Criminal Code and violations of the law to article 6.05 of law 168.
