The Rio Negro Police arrested the Mapuche leader Facundo Jones Huala in a house in El Bolsón, Río Negro. The operation that found the whereabouts of the fugitive activist was carried out during the early hours of Monday, according to what the government of Arabela Carreras announced through a press release.
“Since the official information was reconstructed, the way in which it was given drew attention. The provincial ministry was investigating the eviction of Mascardi. One of the men who was detained was supposed to be Facundo Jones Huala. But they were data that had to do with too large a radius, Bariloche, El Bolsón, Mascardi… Finally it was reached because a neighbor reported that she saw someone enter a barbecue area. The police found a person covered, asleep and drunk, with 1.31 in blood,” explained the journalist from Bariloche, Guillermo Fabio.
“The person was calm… At first he had a jean skirt on. He investigated it and found it. His appearance drew attention, he has very long hair, a beard… It was hard to recognize him. The same as him found alone. You have to see if he was in a precarious or abandoned situation. This gives a presumption that the group he leads, Mapuche Ancestral Resistance (RAM), is dismantled and disseminated“.
Although he was arrested by the provincial police, the arrest warrant is a federal cause. He made contact with Anibal Fernández, after there is a request for whereabouts from Chilean justice. They released him on appeal and he could no longer be located in the Argentine Republic, but it is suspected that he entered through one of the border crossings.
“Now the international order was activated and it will be seen if it becomes a red card. There are a series of crimes in the province that can be initially attributed or charged in case international extradition does not occur, “he explained.
In this regard, Fabio pointed out that justice did not act before “for ideological and political reasons that prevented a lot of crimes from happening. Few people reach messianic revolutionary extremes. When you go on the side of the law, problems can be solved,” he remarked.
