The latest news about the giant Ubisoft is not the most reassuring despite CEO Yves Guillemot’s hopes for the year 2023. The release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage is fast approaching and both developers and fans of the license seem to place a lot of hope in this episode described as a homecoming.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage: the revival episode?

It was the creative director Stéphane Boudon who spoke to our colleagues from GamesRadar+ and the subject of Assassin’s Creed Mirage of course came on the table. Ubisoft has been talking about a real return to basics for a long time by cutting short the RPG formula of the latest games. Stéphane Boudon explains that listening to and taking into account the comments of the community was one of the starting points of the Mirage project.

“Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla. They’re all great games with the promise of epic, strong fantasy.

Among our fans, we began to hear the desire for a character-driven story, centered around the core pillars of early AC on a more intimate scale. That resonates with us too, as developers, and that was the starting point for the project.”

It is clear that the last trilogy offered a refreshing experience for the Assassin’s Creed saga, but the pillars of the license and the elements of gameplay that made it successful have faded in the past 5 years, to the point that it is difficult to define where Assassin’s Creed is in 2023.

Ubisoft therefore seems to have understood the message sent by the community and it is also a recurring element of language used by Ubisoft to talk about Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This new opus taking place in Baghdad in the 9th century should therefore offer a more intimate scale, a more urban experience and a narration putting the Order of Assassins back at the heart of the plot.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is planned for Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC, but also for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and could be released in August 2023.
