With their 180,000 buildings – schools, kindergartens, administration buildings, hospitals – the municipalities would play a key role. “However, this can only work if the financially weak municipalities in particular are given the opportunity to make the appropriate investments.”

The top municipal representative also warned against constantly unsettling people with new bans or bids during the heat transition. The necessary sense of reality also includes a precise examination of “what capacities the sanitary industry actually has and in what time what, where and how could be implemented”. Landsberg emphasized: “Especially when it comes to climate protection, we should be aware that Germany will unfortunately not be able to save the climate on its own, even if it is our duty to set a good example.”
