The 53-year-old saleswoman was attacked with tear gas and beaten when he robbed a late-night shop in Berlin-Neukölln.
The perpetrator, masked with a cloth, came to the counter of the shop on Hermannstrasse around 11 p.m. on Friday, the police said on Saturday.
He is said to have initially apologized to the seller that he would now attack her. He then tried to open the cash register.
When the saleswoman tried to stop the man, he sprayed the woman with tear gas and hit her in the head several times with his fists. Finally, the stranger fled without booty.
The seller suffered head injuries, but initially refused treatment, according to the police. The perpetrator escaped undetected. (dpa)
