Banco Santander employee in Providence is a person of interest in robbery: Police

Providence, Rhode Island police said Wednesday that a Santander Bank employee is a person of interest in the robbery of a Federal Hill branch last week.

Authorities confirmed to WJAR that cash found at the woman’s home in Woonsocket was seized.

Police said they took more than $6,000, including 91 $2 bills. Investigators are working to determine if the money came from the robbery.

The Banco Santander branch on Atwells Avenue was robbed around 2 am on June 29.

Investigators said two people wearing masks entered the vault and removed a suitcase with around $500,000.

Police said the woman’s license plate was captured on a license plate reader at 3:40 a.m. on the night of the robbery, though she claims to have stayed up all night.

No arrests have been announced.

The branch reopened on Wednesday.
