With its Bbox Gaming offer, the operator Bouygues Telecom backs up its “must” and “ultym” fiber offers with an Xbox Series S and Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions at discounted prices. What to make a good deal?

This is perhaps the only honest commercial offer where the Xbox Series S is really 1 €! Rather than attract customers with a first year of fiber subscription at a lower price, the Bouygues Telecom operation spent a deal with Microsoft to literally give away Xboxes. Not the powerful Series X, but its little sister, the Series S. Displayed at 299 € in official price, the console can be acquired at dirt cheap with months of Xbox Game Pass. Concretely, the Bbox Gaming offer is a combination of two choices, one on the gaming offer, the other on the type of box.

Regarding the game, two options:

  • An Xbox Series S and three months of Game Pass Ultimate for a lump sum of €1 (instead of €338)
  • An Xbox Series S and two years of Game Pass Ultimate for a lump sum of €159 (instead of €611)

Then comes the choice of the two fiber offers available:

  • Bbox Must: a Wi-Fi 6 box, 180 channels, download/upload speeds of 1 Gbit/700 Mbit for €41.99 per month with a two-year commitment
  • Bbox Must: a 6E Wi-Fi box, 180 channels, download/upload speeds of 2 Gbit/900 Mbit, Disney Plus included for six months and Salto (don’t laugh) included for six months for €50.99 per month with commitment two years

An offer where everyone wins… which demonstrates the weakness of Xbox?

On paper, the offer is attractive. For any gamer who wants to pick up the console and enjoy two years of free games on Game Pass Ultimate – which offers over 100 games, mobile cloud gaming, PC and console titles, and more. – it is even unbeatable. As soon as you agree to change operator and pay your full price subscription from the start. Even though Microsoft and Bouygues have found an interesting agreement between the two parties, this offer also means that the Xbox Series S… is not worth much. Or at least it’s not in high demand. A state of affairs that contrasts with that of Sony’s PlayStation 5, which are going like hot cakes and which are still only available by reservation.

With 30 million units sold (December 2022 figures), the Sony console largely dominates those of Microsoft (20 million). An American giant that seems to be at the helm here to expand its console fleet by trying to retain customers who subscribe to the Game Pass. A strategy that could prove to be a winner, the Game Pass Ultimate offering an excellent quality/content/price ratio. What to shake up Sony?
