Around 100,000 people in Germany have applied for asylum since the beginning of the year. This is significantly more than in the same period last year. And because municipalities and districts are increasingly being pushed to their limits, the federal and state governments want to exchange ideas at a migration summit.

There is broad agreement that asylum seekers who need protection should be well accommodated and cared for in Germany. In principle, everyone also shares the goal of reducing the number of unauthorized entries. But that’s where the unity ends.
