The results of the US visa lottery are in.

The results of the DV-2025 Immigrant Diversity Visa Program, which allows thousands of people from various countries to aspire to permanent residence in the United States, are now available and those who applied to the draw can check if they were winners.

The Office of Consular Affairs of the Department of State reported this Saturday that applicants can check the status of their application starting May 4.

Through the program, 55,000 visas were enabled under this program, for the benefit of countries with low levels of migration to the United States, including Cuba, one of the nations with higher fees last year.

This lottery is an expeditious path to permanent legal residence in the country and makes it easier to obtain citizenship.

The draw was open in October and November of last year, and those who applied can check if they were selected on the site https://dvprogram.state.gov/ESC/.

To enter you must have on hand the 16-digit confirmation number (numbers and letters) that was given to the applicant upon registrationare last name and the year of birth.

Winners must then log in at the link and fill out form DS-260 to apply for an immigrant visa.

Subsequently, the beneficiary will receive an email indicating an interview date at the embassy, where a consular officer will finally approve or deny the visa.

The authorities affirm that applicants must verify the result on their own because The State Department will not send a letter or email to inform if they were selected.

It warns that if anyone receives a notice about the lottery they should ignore it to avoid being victims of fraud: “This is the ONLY way to check if you have been selected. Selection does not guarantee a visa or an interview,” the federal agency clarified.

A total of 3,081 Cuban citizens won the Diversity Visa lottery (DV-2024) corresponding to the year 2024 to travel to the United States, a figure that more than doubled the 1,358 granted in fiscal year 2023.

Last year, Cuba was the Latin American country that received the most visas out of a total of 3,150 granted to South America and the Caribbean. With respect to other continents, the island’s figures are similar to those of Tajikistan and Turkey, Nepal or Yemen.
