Max Verstappen equals Alain Prost's record in Miami

MIAMI GARDENS.- Max Verstappen moved a step closer to a third consecutive victory at the Miami Grand Prix on Saturday as he continued his extensive dominance in the Formula 1 standings.

The three-time reigning F1 champion won pole position for the seventh consecutive time, although his first in Miami, where Verstappen had failed to win the pole position for the start in the first two races around the Hard Rock stadium, even though he won both times.

By winning pole, Verstappen equaled Alain Prost by starting the season with six in a row. The Brazilian achieved it in 1993.

“It’s a good start,” Verstappen said over the radio to his team. “We are going to continue with that step.”

Verstappen started Saturday with a victory in the sprint race and ended the day with his 38th pole. The Red Bull driver set the fastest lap of 1 minute, 27.241 seconds to beat Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. and will head the grid on Sunday for the first of three F1 stops this year. in United States.

The Dutchman has won four of the first five races of the season.

Mexican Sergio Pérez, Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, was fourth in the classification, followed by McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who were probably disappointed after the improvements introduced in Miami. The team hopes to get closer to competing with Red Bull and Ferrari.

Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished sixth and seventh in the standings, followed by Nico Hülkenberg of Haas and Yuki Tsunoda of the Red Bull B team.

Verstappen is once again the big favorite to win it all in this tournament.
